My name is Deirdre and I have been working in the mental health field since 2008. I spent nine years working at McLean Hospital in their 3East Residential DBT program. Afterwards I transitioned to working in the Child Welfare system as an Adoption Worker for the state. I am currently working as a outpatient provider at the Mindfulness and Change Group in Watertown.
Practicing in and around Newton, MA, I specialize in DBT therapy for teenagers, young adults, and adults who struggle with symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder such as suicidal thinking, self-harm, and difficulty with interpersonal relationships. As part of DBT therapy, I provide skills coaching services to help with the generalizing and implementation of skills. I am trained in a number of evidence based practices to treat anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder. I am trained in DBT-C for children which is geared towards helping parents learn tools to support their child's ability to regulate their emotions. It also teaches children valuable skills around managing emotions. I am trained in Behavioral Parent Training for children who struggle with oppositional defiant disorder. I am trained in DBT-PE for complex trauma or for people who have tried other trauma treatments and haven't been successful. I am certified in TF-CBT for the treatment of trauma in children and adults. Lastly, I am trained in CBT-I for the treatment of insomnia. Sleep has a big impact on our ability to function and learning tools to help with regulating sleep is crucial.
My main goal in working with clients is to help them feel in control of their emotions, help them understand how to move out of their emotions and help them enjoy their life now. If you feel that your emotions are in control of your life, I can help. In learning new skills and interventions you will start to feel present in your life and participate in your life more fully.
